OpenAI has recently launched Sora, an artificial intelligence model capable of generating realistic videos from simple text descriptions. This tool represents a significant leap forward in generative AI, expanding creative possibilities across various industries. It has recently become accessible to the public.

What is Sora?

Sora is a text-to-video model developed by OpenAI that enables the creation of videos up to 20 seconds long, with resolutions of up to 1080p, based on user-provided text prompts. Users can generate videos from textual descriptions, transform static images into animated videos, and remix existing videos. This technology provides new opportunities for creating visual content, making video production more accessible even to those without advanced technical skills.

Sora has numerous applications across a wide range of fields:

According to information from OpenAI, Sora is available in numerous countries, but its release in Europe, including Italy, has been delayed. OpenAI has stated that it may take several months before Sora becomes available in most parts of Europe and the United Kingdom.
 
For Italian users, this means that, at present, Sora cannot be accessed (unless using a VPN). OpenAI is working to extend the service's availability to new regions, though no specific date for the launch in Italy has been provided. It is advisable to monitor OpenAI's official updates to stay informed about Sora's future availability in our country.



Performance limitations

Sora currently has some notable performance limitations, particularly concerning the consistency of physical laws in generated videos. For instance, effects like smoke rising from a fire often fail to follow realistic dynamics, appearing unnatural or incoherent. In sports contexts, clear errors related to gravity can be observed, with movements that entirely ignore physical laws. These flaws highlight the technical challenges AI still needs to overcome to achieve flawless realism.
